Last week with the passing of Steve Slaubaugh we lost a dear member of our Wellman community and a friend to many of us. Steve grew up in Wellman and lived here most of his life. He was currently serving on the City Council and was a very active member of our community.
Steve was diagnosed early in life with Cystic Fibrosis as was not expected to live to adulthood. This disease is devastating to the lungs and makes normal breathing difficult, if not impossible. Throughout his life Steve was required to perform a daily routine of treatments just to help him breathe, and he spent his share of time in the hospital over the years when more help was needed. What he had to endure throughout his life was amazing to me, but what was truly amazing was how Steve thrived and lived life to the fullest! Whether it was high school athletics, working out, time on the golf course, or spending time with his family, Steve did not let his condition stop him from doing what he loved.
Steve leaves behind his wonderful wife and three children, along with many family members. I would ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Steve set a courageous example for all of us to live our life by…he did not feel sorry for himself, he was happy and enthusiastic and he had an abundance of friends in his life…we should all be so lucky.
I love you my friend and you will be missed…
