Our Public Works department is hard at work on several projects this summer. One of the bigger projects is the installation of the radio read water and gas meters. This requires one of our employees set up an appointment with home owners because they will have to enter your home to install the water meter and relight any gas appliances you may have. This is an ongoing project that will take several month to complete but in the end will allow us to read all the meters in town in a matter of hours instead of days.
Two other very visible projects we are doing this summer are replacing stop signs around town and replacing the park benches and picnic tables at the park. The approximately 50 stop signs are from a grant we received earlier this year. The park benches and picnic tables are having a face lift by replacing the old wood boards with composite recycled plastic boards which should be maintenance free and last for many years.
Our public Works department is also doing all of the mowing at our public parks this year. We have additional summer help again this year which has allowed us to do the mowing again along with completing the many other projects we have going on right now.
The water plant improvement project is still moving along right as scheduled. The reverse osmosis system should be ready to test next month and hopefully the entire City will be on line in the next couple of months! The upgrade to the electrical system and controls for the plant should also take care of the problems we have had lately with running out of water in the tower after electrical storms. These improvements have been needed for quite some time and should provide Wellman with a wonderful system.
