I would like to thank all of those who helped with the Rotary Club blood drive last week. Whether you volunteered to work, donated blood, or attempted to donate, everyone contributed to reaching our goal. The blood bank set the goal to collect 52 units and we surpassed that with 63 units collected! We should give an extra thank you to Leroy and Marilyn Powell for organizing the event and working so hard to make it a success.
Last week the City was notified that we had received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $500,000 for our infrastructure projects this summer! This grant is for the water and wastewater portions of the projects (6th Ave., Circle Drive, and Golf View Dr.) and also towards the replacement of over 40 water hydrants around town. These parts of the overall project will greatly improve our water distribution capabilities, replacing water lines and fire hydrants that are over 50 years old, and significantly impacting our inflow and infiltration issues we have in the sanitary sewer system. This is the second major grant we have received in the past year (including a grant for the water plant upgrades) which will help us significantly improve the infrastructure in Wellman.
The Council set April 18th as the first day that the City will be around to pick up brush and yard waste. The bags are available at City Hall for 50 cents each and sticks can be up to four feet long and bundled together. In order to make sure your items will be picked up you should to contact City Hall by the Friday before to be added to the pick up list.
