On May 25, 2011 the City of Wellman received three grants from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for the following community enhancements:

* Wellman Senior Dining — $3,500 to help cover the cost to modify the Center’s walk-in cooler

* Downtown Business Incentive Grant Program — $15,000 to go toward the City’s current grant program (which provides money on a competitive grant basis to downtown businesses that make physical improvements to the downtown area)

* Severe Weather Warning System — $4,500 to go toward the purchase of an additional severe weather warning siren plus being able to sync all three of the City’s sirens so they all go off simultaneously when the Safety Center activates “Wellman”.
